Friends, gentlepeople, countrypeople, lend me your words.
Citypeople and suburbanites too. Kids and grownups and those who aren’t sure
which they are. Send me your words.
Fun words.
Favorite words.
Elegant words.
Energetic words.
WHY??
Because every day for a year I want to select from
among a collection of words from all over the world, and write a poem. The words come from you, the poems come from
me.
Every. Single. Day.
The
Basics:
- Write
your word on a 3x5 card. One word per card.
- Put
your name on the back of the card if you want credit for sending it to me.
- If
your word is in a language other than English, please provide a
translation.
- If
you made up your word, provide a definition.
- If
your contribution involves profanity, nudity, pornography, racism,
vulgarity, violence, or anything considered Generally Offensive, please
keep it for yourself.
- Mail
it to:
K.C. Lewis
P.O. Box 274
Caledonia, MS
39740
- Tell your friends. Maybe we’ll end up
as an urban legend!
The Nitty Gritty:
- Please mail your contribution by October 31st, 2009. The sooner you participate, the more likely your word is to be used and heralded. With great fanfare.
- All
words/cards will become my property.
If you really want to keep it for yourself, do so. Otherwise, please understand you are
giving up all rights to it, and there is no way I can ever send it back to
you. This is why copy machines and
scanners exist.
- Hyphenated
words, compound words, and non-English words are acceptable (remember to
provide a translation on the latter).
- Yes,
I really mean it when I say I don’t want any nastiness arriving in my
mailbox. Remember, I write
primarily for *children and teens*.
Think G and PG ratings, please.
- If
you are 3x5 impaired you can either 1) cut a sheet of paper to those
measurements; 2) email me and I’ll put your word on a 3x5 card (sigh, I
hate caving to technology); or 3) cut a word from a print publication
(newspaper, magazine, junk mail) and send that.
A
Special Invitation:
- If
you are a classroom teacher or a homeschooling family, I’d
love for you to make this into a class/school project. Incorporate it into your vocabulary
lessons, art projects, poetry units, or do it just because it’s fun.
